Winning a championship in one category is a tall order.  Fighting against fellow competitors, focusing on the nuances of your vehicle, and staying consistent.  To accomplish it across two vehicles is even more challenging! For Ellie Lindberg, it was the tale of her 2023 racing season.

At 15 years of age, Lindberg entered the 2023 season competing in both Jr Dragster Advanced and Jr Street.  Both of these categories offer competition for kids up to the age of 17, allowing the future of the sport a place to sharpen their skills.  Though Lindberg only claimed one victory in the Jr Dragster category, a season’s worth of consistent late round appearances led her to claiming the championship by 33 points over second place Claire McDonough.  “Winning the championship was amazing, and I’m really proud of my whole family for what we did” stated Lindberg. “It’s so much fun being at the track and hanging out with the friends we’ve made…and also turning on win lights!”

While Lindberg fell just short of the Rock Falls Raceway Jr Street Championship, she secured a larger prize in the category.  When her family traveled to Kansas for the Regional Championships, Lindberg bested 24 opponents from across the Midwest to claim the NHRA West Central Division Jr Street Championship! In the final, Lindberg took a starting line advantage over her opponent and followed it up by running a 9.167 on her 9.16 dial to claim victory!

When she’s not turning on win lights at the track, Lindberg enjoys activities that are just as advanced.  Lindberg is a regular in her school’s robotics team, competing in building the technology to shape the future of our world.  In 2023, Lindberg’s school team advanced to the state tournament for the first time in the history of the program!

Lindberg recognizes that her time remaining in the Jr Dragster category is short, but already has big plans for her future.  “Once I graduate out of the Jr Dragster category, I would love to compete at Rock Falls Raceway in the Pro ET category.  We’ve talked about also looking to compete in the NHRA’s Stock Eliminator category.  Both these categories are bracket races, which is what I’ve been doing since I was 7 in the Jr Dragster, so I have some experience!” It’s clear that Lindberg’s passion for automotive stretches throughout her wealth of racing knowledge, with plans to go into mechanical work as she grows up, possibly working on a professional racing team.

As with all the Jr Dragster categories, Lindberg couldn’t be here without her support team.  Lindberg wanted to thank her mom and dad, Jen and Chad Lindberg, as well as her brother Joe for helping tune her Jr Street machine, Claire (McDonough) for her friendship and hard racing all season, her good luck charm Scott Berghammer, as well as the entire Weiler and McDonough families for their support through her VERY busy racing season.  Congratulations to your 2023 Rock Falls Raceway Jr Dragster Advanced and 2023 NHRA West Central Division Jr Street Champion…Ellie Lindberg!
